While the conversation always turns in circular motion between Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox, other firms are continuously investing in the market as well. Although console is already established, some companies are extending to other ventures like mobile. Netflix in particular has been very vocal on this behalf with smartphone users for years now. Even more is opening up to AAA projects as well.
In 2022, job listings were spotted for more ambitious projects on PC. Although what is exciting, it is undetermined what the firm could explore from there. According to one report, properties like Squid Game, Black Mirror, and Wednesday are being pursued by Netflix. Additionally, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was revealed to be included in that as well with Bloodline: A Rebel Moon Game.
From GameFile, Netflix has officially shuttered its effort with Team Blue. Previously, headlines surged with Halo veteran Joe Staten confirming to be joining the team as a creative director. Other valued developers also flocked to Netflix such as Overwatch producer Chacko Sonny & God of War art director Rafael Grassetti as well.
According to a representative for Netflix, Team Blue has been dissolved with all three aforementioned developers no longer working at Netflix. This does offer some reminiscent memories to Google years ago. Back with the up & coming of Stadia, the firm shuttered Stadia Games & Entertainment which harbored other industry veterans like Jade Raymond who spearheaded the first-party division.
Now, it is uncertain if Netflix is to continue pursuing gaming as seriously as before. Noted, the firm during its initial push towards the industry even acquired Oxenfree developer Night School back in 2021. You can read the full report by heading here.
