All PAX East 2019 Teases From Gearbox So Far

UPDATE March 27, 2019:

It’s the day before Gearbox’s major panel and they posted one last teaser which could hint toward Borderlands 3 or something completely different.

Update March 21, 2019:

Thursday’s tease from Gearbox Software is yet another straightforward GIF that took many anticipated fans off guard. This one simply of an umbrella popping off the handle onto the ground.

While several fans on Twitter were trying to connect the dots for umbrellas to Gearbox titles, some fans saw the blatant implication for the choice of a parasol over anything. Shortly after coming to the conclusion of a ‘storm’, where players the pieced the tweet to be pointing towards the studio’s 2011 title, Bulletstorm.

This now being the second reference to the first-person shooter, the likeliness of the franchise being at the PAX East show alongside Borderlands is pretty u there now.

Update March 20, 2019:

Gearbox released yet another teaser today, and this is the most confusing as of yet. Unlike the previous tweet from Friday of a single ‘&’ symbol, today’s leak confuses fans even more on Twitter. This time it is a GIF of two fully rendered characters high fiving one another.

Viewing the two complementary characters, users are having trouble deciphering what the new post could actually be. Even after freshening up on Gearbox’s previous portfolio of titles, the only culprit for what this title might be pointing towards is Sega’s Samba de Amigo. The one and only title originally developed by Sega’s Sonic Team was later ported to the Nintendo Wii by Gearbox Software.

But for a sequel to be on the way is completely uncertain seeing that the game was never pursued after the game’s debut for the Sega Dreamcast for a follow-up title. But with these just being titles, everything speculated is just in theory until next Thursday in Boston.

Original:

Marking a week as of today, developer Gearbox Softworks has released numerous teases for fans who will be attending their upcoming panel at the approaching Penny Arcade Expo held in Boston, Massachusetts at the end of the month. Rather than covering each one individually, it’s better to just report it in one bundle and update this the closer we get to the East coast event.

Last Tuesday, Gearbox released their first tease which set the videogame community off instantly to anticipate for their upcoming panel. With a simple image of a highway sign with graffiti reading “March 28 Boston MA”. But the art style for the picture clearly representing the Borderlands franchise got fans on the edge for what’s to be announced. And the cherry of the cake being the “Exit 3” sign cutoff on the top implying the third installment in the series.

The second tease dropped that Wednesday being vaguer compared to the first: with the illustration comprised of a disassembled robot and a more pragmatic-looking environment, there’s less of a broader message portrayed with this leak. Some fans on Twitter predicting this could possibly be an upcoming DLC for We Happy Few, which does give a clearer image since Gearbox published the title.

Then on March 14th, another Borderlands-related tease emerged, but unlike the others, this one was pixelated, but fans were easy to pick out the game was Borderlands 2. But why? Some look towards the idea that Gearbox will finally announce Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for the Nintendo Switch.

Following to last Friday where the most indistinct tease dropped on the Gearbox official Twitter. Simply a big red “&” symbol with a black background. Some conspiracies pitching this segues a transition between announcements. While others joke of “Borderl&s 3” in the Twitter thread. Some even proposing the chance of a new entry into the Brothers in Arms series with ‘Brothers & Arms’.

Then this week we received two more teases from the Frisco-based developer: Monday having a more blatant implication. As the image showcases alien hunter Duke Nukem and Bulletstrom’s Ishi Sato. This is where fans begin to question if this will be a new game, or just another port, or even both.

Leading to today’s most recent leak of now the third tease linked to the Borderlands franchise. The tweet revealing a picture of symmetrical playing card with Claptrap implemented into the design. Many seeming to guess a possible Borderlands tabletop game as PAX is notorious for hosting both video games as well as card-based titles at of their all events.

All in all, there is a lot of ground already cover from Gearbox leading up to PAX East 2019. And seeing how we entered week two with these teases, more is expected to drop the coming days leading up to the event which starts on Thursday March 28th. What other title do you think will be teased from now until the airing of the upcoming panel?

The Gearbox panel will be going live opening day of the convention at 2 PM EST / 11 AM PST.
