For InnerSloth’s Among Us, the last major update for the game generally took place this past December. While the indie game studios has made other namely announcement since, many of its users are anticipating the fourth map addition for the game: Airship. During The Game Awards, the developer showcase new tasks and the addition of ladders which adds to the layers of a playable setting.
Outside of the promised content for Among Us, InnerSloth in an abrupt announcement later in January unveiled that the popular mobile & PC game is also coming to Nintendo Switch. The reveal took place during another periodically held Indie World livestream and issued that the game would be available later that day.
Now in a new tweet this past week, InnerSloth again touches upon the addition of Airship and mentions the game expecting the map by the end of month, March 31. Notably, InnerSloth goes on to explain the delay for the release of the map and other priorities at hand.
Among Us’ popularity was something no one expected, and quite late into 2020 too. We had already considered the game done and had moved onto something else. And while it may seem odd things took a few months, it’s quite normal in game development, especially for a team of our size. When you work in an official capacity and need to handle various business needs, there are more legal considerations that need to be put into it versus if it were just a side project or mod!
Additionally, creating a map and updates isn’t as simple as creating one aspect of the game and throwing it onto the PC. Because our game is cross-platform, it means EVERYTHING needs to work on as many devices as possible. (Every kind of smartphone and its various versions, console, etc.) You may have noticed most modifications to the game focus on just PC, as that makes development much easier.Â
When a game becomes unexpectedly popular it’s great, but it brings a whole slew of other problems we were extremely new to, which I’ll outline below. That being said, we’re extremely grateful for all of the success we’ve found. The explanation of problems is just that – an explanation! Not a complaint.
InnerSloth goes on to reference the team’s ambitions to move on to a new project. Namely, the developer planned to work on a sequel for Among Us. However, thanks to the growing popularity of the game, the game studio felt it best appropriate to cancel that advancement and continue pumping content into the original game.
Outside of what already happened, InnerSloth announced to be bringing Among Us to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S later this year. Additionally, the game will be an addition to Xbox Game Pass when it arrives as well. You can read the full report by heading here.
