But now according to a new interview with Discussing Film, Chernobyl Director Johan Renck will be involved in directing the Last of Us show, at least the pilot, he tells. Renck answeres this when questioned about collaborating on the new project:
I’m an executive producer on it and attached to it. It’s an ongoing TV series. So that’s not something that I will be able to take on to that extent, but I’m part of that series and I will be directing at least the pilot. Then we’ll see how it goes on further. I mean, both Craig and I, we are working with each other again and we will work with each other on other things because we like each other.
Renck adds onto the topic regarding the HBO series when he tells the outlet that him, Mazin, and Druckmann have “weekly calls” on the project. Renck shares that adapting the video game over the historical events that took place in Chernobyl shows to be less stressing since there are already generated appearances of the world and its characters that will be translated to the television.
