Developer PlatinumGames earlier this week in Spirit of April Fool’s Day went to reveal that the scheduled fourth announcement for the Platinum4 self-publishing initiative was actually a fun little joke for fans to get a laugh out of. The reveal happened to be an $17,000 arcade cabinet for an “upcoming” starship shooter in collaboration with Hamster Corporation.
However, for fans that were actually anticipation a legitimate announcement were left in the dark. At the time, PlatinumGames did not disclose whether or not the team will schedule another reveal for the last entry for Platinum4. Until today that is.
On Twitter, the studio’s official account posted that a reveal is set to be arriving fairly soon.
Linking to the respected Platinum4 website, the fifth segment of the domain is left blank which leaves uncertainty for what the developer has planned for this last announcement. What already came from PlatinumGames directed by Platinum4 happened to be one of the most ambitious moves from the studio ever.
The first being the remaster for The Wonderful 101: the game initially launching on the Wii U, what makes this a pioneering move for the team in particular is that the game happened to be one of the least selling properties from the studio. However, looking at the success of the Kickstarter campaign, fans are eager to see how the game would perform on newer hardware.
Followed by Project G.G. A Go-Go, this unspecified title only shipped with cinematic teaser propping no solid foundation for the premise of the game’s genre or core gameplay. But, we do know that players will combat giant beasts in metropolis cities. The third segment revealed by the firm’s CEO Kenichi Sato announced PlatinumGames new holding studio resorting in Japan’s capital city, Tokyo.
Following the initial developer interview that spawned from the announcement, it was discovered through the later segment with the studio’s Research and Development Group that PlatinumGames is crafting an in-house engine for upcoming projects. The codenamed ‘PlatinumEngine’ has been said to be in development for two years and to offer tools in a simpler manner than other pre-existing engines.
What do you think PlatinumGames has primed to announce for Platinum4?
