Developer Warner Bros. Montreal has been quiet regarding the next title that the studio is planning to tackle next since its last project in 2015 for Batman Arkham Knight‘s A Matter of Family story expansion. Since then, the studio has been through a handful of other projects which were initially planned to follow the launch of the 2015 title.
Back in 2016, it was rumored that two titles were in development at the time under the Canadian developer which both were to be based in the Arkham universe. First being the Suicide Squad title that was said to be an online, ‘co-op action” experience with Borderlands-like elements. But sometime following the leak, the game was scrapped despite the game being teased in Warner Bros. Montreal’s Batman Arkham Origins.
The second title was claimed to star Damian Wayne, the shared child of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul. Originally dubbed Project Sabbath is set ten years following the events of Arkham Knight, Damien takes the cowl of the Dark Knight and faces his own form of enemies. However, alike the Suicide Squad project, this as well did not pick up off the ground. Although, there is some concept art for the game that did surface recently via 4Chan.
The bevy of concept art issues to familiar faces of the series like Poison Ivy, Two-Face, as well as first Robin Dick Grayson. A few sticking out was Gorilla Grodd who is a Flash villain from Central City and Black Mask who was portrayed as a female. However, this does align with the previous leak as it does state the villain to be a woman.
Two other concepts focus on the environments of the game: one giving an detailed overview of Gotham City, rundown from the events of the previous installment seeing that status of the standing buildings covering the skyline. The second image also confirming the rumor to be true as it features the bat bike.
Despite the concept art never becoming a full fledge title, there is official word that the developer is working on a “DC franchise” game. Which also supports the previous redacted tweet that another Warner Bros. Montreal shared on Twitter which suggests a Court of Owls game is in development.
What are your thoughts on the surfacing concept art?
