For Doom fans, the announcement for a new game not only shakes the foundation of its following, but much of the industry after entries like its 2016 reboot & Doom Eternal. “The lore, locations and fights were blistering and fast paced, and both parts together creates a compelling and tightly paced follow-up to a great game. For any Doom fans, this expansion is a must play,” our review for expansion The Ancient Gods reads.

In more pressing news, id Software did officially reveal the next entry in the series – Doom: The Dark Ages. Exploring more of the universe and indulging in the netherworld, gothic characteristics with a dragons and a new arsenal of weapons. More surprising is that after the ZeniMax buyout previously, Microsoft is still launching Doom: The Dark Ages on PlayStation 5 this year.

Now this week from the Xbox Developer_Direct, id Software shares that Doom: The Dark Ages is set to launch this May. You can watch the new gameplay trailer in the video below:

“With the Slayer imprisoned at the start of our story the balance of power between good and evil is shifting and time is running out. Our hero is a feared outsider among an imperilled people, his strength controlled by the gods they serve, in a world under siege by an ancient evil,” game director Hugo Martin says elaborating on the plot.

Adding on to the gameplay for Doom: The Dark Ages, he says: “It’s all about engagement; creating a loop or ‘dance’ that’s intuitive, innovative and loaded with depth – fun on the outside smart on the inside. An appealing power fantasy that’s new but familiar – who hasn’t wanted to feel like an iron tank in the middle of a medieval war against hell?”

Do you plan to get Doom: The Dark Ages at release?

Doom: The Dark Ages ships on May 15, 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
