Google Announces Google Play Pass, Coming To Android This Week

Not even a week after Apple released mobile subscription game service Apple Arcade for iOS devices, Google today announced the company’s own service that will combat the competing platform will be coming to Android in just a few short days. Announcing Google Play Pass, users on Android will be provided with an expansive catalogue of games and apps that they can pay for a small monthly fee ahead of the projected price for each individual client.

Alike its Apple counterpart, Google’s subscription service will also be compatible with all devices the Google Play Store is available on (mobile, PC, tablet). However, your device must at least have Play Store version 16.6.25 and Android version 4.4 as the minimal requirements to access the new service.

Launching the Google Play Pass, Google will have a limited-time event for users to access the subscription with a 10-day free trial: and following the week and a half test, you will have the option to pay for your first twelve months for just $1.99 each month. Following the timed promotion’s expiration or your opt-in discount year subscription, each month of Google Game Pass will be $4.99 a month.

Google clarifies that the service will also include new games and apps each month to keep the library fresh with new content for mobile users who decide to try Google Play Pass. However, this is where the service sways away from its similarities to Apple Arcade as these are all properties that already exist – whereas Apple is working to create excusive content for the company’s service.

Especially looking at the soon release of Google Stadia this coming November, it will be interesting to see where Google will stand with this alongside the stream-based gaming platform.

Currently, Google Play Pass will be available at a later point this week for the Untied States. Other regions will have a release specified at a later date.
