What felt not that long ago was the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI releasing. Ahead of its promised time, Rockstar Games was instantly met with a wave of excitement upon finally breaking silence on the decade-long wait for the next installment in its series. In 24 hours, the single video generated more than 90 million views as well as exceeded first day viewership of Grand Theft Auto V as well.
With a promised release date set for 2025, there worst part for many is waiting to see when exactly it hits store shelves this year. According to Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive, the game is aimed for a fall 2025 launch. Prior to that, it was already confirmed the title entered the final stage of its development to fine tune the game for release.
Recently, however, rumors online surface indicating that Grand Theft Auto VI is being delayed. And while the word passed online, no proper channels or leakers properly corroborated the claim. But, this appears to be false according to notorious insider Jason Schreier. He elaborated in a thread on X.
“I want to be very clear: Six staff told me they weren’t *informed* of a delay. For all I know, Rockstar’s executive team could have decided months ago to delay GTA VI without telling the company. But the lack of internal announcement suggests that the Twitter rumor was nonsense,” Schreier added in the post. So at least for now it appears that fall 2025 is still on the table for Grand Theft Auto VI releasing.
According to a separate thread, Schreier does reiterate that a delay is not out of the picture entirely – just not for this specific situation. “Way too many people interpreting this as ‘Jason says there’s no delay’ when all I said is that I never said anything about commenting on it,” he explains in response to reports on his knowledge of the rumors initially.
