At least, one of the best things that came out of the Halo Television Series is that the new Showtime/Paramount+ property is that it is a separate universe strung to the video game franchise. Ahead of release, it was confirmed the live-action portrayal will be within its own confines separated from what fans were already familiar. And this probably worked in its favor following the underwhelming reception from viewers in Season 1.
Additionally, that is not to say the Halo Television Series was not a success. At the time, it was the most-viewed release on the platform then. Moreover, it would not be a surprise that a second season would be on the map in the coming future. Most recently, a new trailer went out showcasing the events leading up to ‘The Fall of Reach’ with this new journey for the TV series.
In a new interview with IGN, Master Chief actor Pablo Scheiber goes head-on with the controversy pertaining to the decision to represent Spartan-117 without his iconic helmet. He elaborated that to offer emotion and is how to approach the matter for television.
When you play a first-person shooter, the way that a character is developed is very different than what’s necessary when you’re making long-form television. To go on this journey with your protagonist, you’re not going to be able to bring an audience along in a long-form story without having access to a character’s face, which tells you what they’re feeling, how they think about everything.
That access to a character’s emotional life, over the course of time, is what makes you empathise and connect with a character. I’m sorry, but it’s the only choice for long-form storytelling in television. What I would say to anybody who disagrees with that, I totally respect that opinion. But it’s a pretty basic place to start when you’re talking about making a television show of quality.
“One thing I learned very early on is that there’s as many different opinions in the Halo universe as there are Halo fans. So obviously, you’re not going to be able to please everybody. But what I would say is that we are tailoring an entertainment experience that’s tailored to the medium that it’s for,” Scheiber added to his comment.
