In terms of the current relevancy for the Halo franchise, eyes are pointed at the Halo Television Series streaming on Paramount+. While fans are mixed on what the show is so far with some contempt on the decisions and others disagreeing on the direction, it is proven to be a hit. From Deadline, it was reported to be the biggest premiere for the platform yet.

Elsewhere, 343 Industries is still properly working on the post-launch plans for Halo Infinite. However, fans believe that the game is not in a good state thanks to the lack of additional content for the live service title. Recently, the firm presses that Halo Infinite alongside Season 2 – Lone Wolves is receiving a career progression system which is still in the design phase.

This week, 343 Industries in a new announcement for Halo: The Master Chief Collection reveals The Flood is making waves with Firefight. Yes, the secret weapon of the Halo rings are now entering the wave-based mode; specifically for Halo 3: ODST.

First, players will notice that Flood are accompanied by dense fog which gives each Firefight mission a new and spooky ambiance. Players will see this fog dynamically fade in when a Flood wave spawns and fade back out when a regular Covenant wave spawns (in variants which mix Flood and Covenant enemies).

Flood can now occupy vehicles for the first time since Halo 2 and players will encounter (and potentially commandeer) these across multiple Firefight missions. Flood enemies now have a few new animations which allow them to pilot these vehicles, traverse the environment more effectively, and even wield support weapons like turrets.

There is also three new Flood types introduced: infected civilian, infected ODST, and infected Elite Major. With that comes new strategies these variants will implement. “Stalker Forms can climb on walls and deploy as Ranged Forms in unexpected locations, totally changing the way the classic Firefight missions play. Flood can also drop onto the map via dispersal pods.”

Thankfully players can fend off this pandemic with Flamethrowers that are to be scattered across all maps. This also applies to Assault Rifles and Battle Rifles which were not included in the original Firefight mode as well. Firefight also received a major overhaul including fixes and other adjustments that go on to welcome the Sentinel Beam & Energy Sword too.

Previously, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is not the only compilation title in the Xbox first-party pipeline. Then it was reported that Gears of War is to receive a similar bundle aimed to release next year in 2023. You can read the full report by heading here.
