In An Era Of Cross-play Bridging Consoles, Phil Spencer & Jim Ryan Denounce Console War Ideals

Upon many ideals that reside on both Xbox and PlayStation, there are users that dictate whether one system is superior than another. In some instances, this behavior has brought some toxic outcomes and illustrates a greater divide between both platforms. However, now that these platforms are becoming more accessible and given the ability to play with one another via cross-platform play, leading executives continue to denounce how some of its user base acts.

In that, Xbox division lead Phil Spencer when speaking to The Verge recently told that he does not agree with how some platform loyalists project themselves to the counterpart console and wants what is best for the industry, not the platform he resides with.

That tribalism in the industry, if there was anything that would ever drive me out of the industry, it’s actually that, When a team releases something into the market for … the world to tear it apart on the internet, it’s just such a brave thing for a team to do. I’m never going to vote against any creative team or any product team to do poorly because I have a competitive product. It’s not in me. I don’t actually think it helps us in the long run in the industry.

Phil Spencer, Executive Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft

“But there is a core that just really hates the other consumer product,” Spencer adds. “Man, that’s just so off-putting to me … To me, it’s one of the worst things about our industry.” While Spencer does not direct the statement to a certain group, it is evident that these people are present on all platforms – either that being Xbox, PlayStation, PC, or even Switch.

Spencer is not the only on to denounce this behavior within the consumer base as PlayStation boss Jim Ryan also commented on the “console war” that many ensue to continue as new consoles release. Speaking with Russian news agency TASS, he explains competition is a great thing for any industry and is content with which system the consumer chooses.

[Console wars] is not a term I ever use or actually like. For me, it’s great that there’s competition. I think it makes us work harder. It avoids us getting complacent. It’s great that the consumer has a choice. I think that’s wonderful. We’re happy and we’re proud with what we have.

Jim Ryan, Sony interactive Entertainment President & CEO

Ultimately, the gaming industry is living in one of the most thriving portions of its lifespan and some individuals should not ruin that for the majority. Even during a pandemic, both Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 both sold fantastically and that is only the first sign of a glowing generation ahead.

Do you agree with the comments from Phil Spencer and jim ryan?
