Compared to its release, Cyberpunk 2077 has evolved into the promised RPG that developer CD Projekt Red promised for nearly a decade. And its only the beginning of what’s to come. In one statement from the Polish game studio, the developer has plenty more planned and is adamant to push the envelope for the upcoming sequel.
According to a previous press release from CD Projekt Red, the team did confirm a new title is in the pipeline currently – Project Orion. While details are light on the direction this follow-up will entertain, it is confirmed to be the next entry for the series. Already, it was revealed that Phantom Liberty game director Gabe Amatangelo will be at the helm for Project Orion.
Of course, core staffing at CD Projekt Red is attached to this project. Currently, however, most of the attention is pointed towards the next title for The Witcher, it was previously confirmed. But with incubator teams working solely on select efforts, a new job listing does reveal that the new Cyberpunk 2077 game will feature some form of multiplayer.
“We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Network Programmer to join our team and spearhead the development of online functionalities for our upcoming project,” the posting reads. Listed responsibilities for the role listed to “Develop and optimize multiplayer systems, including matchmaking, and address challenges related to latency, bandwidth usage, and server performance.”
Given that the job posting does indicate the position will be based in Boston, Massachusetts, the team at hand is CD Projekt Red subsidiary The Molasses Flood. Previously developer Drake Hollow, the team was purchased by the Polish firm in 2021. Currently, the team is occupied with online efforts for Project Sirius and Project Orion. There is the off chance this listing could be intended for The Witcher, but the posting can be visited through means for Cyberpunk 2077.
