Koei Tecmo’s Continued AAA Push Brings New Internal Team, Projected To Double Its Staffing

Publisher Koei Tecmo has and remains a staple in the video game industry. In recent years, the firm has delivered on its continued effort on legacy IPs. Previously, a new initiative was put in place to reboot Ninja Gaiden as well as Dead & Alive. Additionally, support for Tekken has remained no secret with Tekken 8 releases this past year also.

Additionally, the firm is searching to further invest in AAA after the recent release for Rise of the Ronin. “It’s an absolute treat to explore various landscapes of Japan, from bustling towns to serene countryside, each brimming with life and detail,” Rectify Gaming’s review for the game shares. Following the market response to Rise of the Ronin, Koei Tecmo has shared a new project is underway to further establish roots in the AAA space.

In part, this arrangement will see the formation of a new studio internally at Koei Tecmo. As per translation from Automaton, Koei Tecmo’s intentions for this new initiative emphasizes on “yearly releases of major titles” at the forefront with this new team established.

Further elaborating on the effort, in answering to shareholders Koei Tecmo anticipates the approaching console launches to bring new traffic; Koei Tecmo “expects the console and PC game market to grow” in its favor to push the initiative now. Although console its its focus looking ahead, Koei Tecmo does have its foot in mobile gaming too.

While finding success, the firm said to shareholders that “significant growth is unlikely to be seen” from the smartphone market. This is what led to push for its console-focus endeavor to “steadily produce AAA titles.” What’s more, the new project also projects to increase staffing from the then-reported 2,500 employees to 5,000 ultimately.
