
The success for Helldivers 2 remains a starstruck moment – especially for PlayStation regarding a PC release. At launch, the game faced praise across the platform with its overall concurrent player count being the best for any PlayStation PC title. Even more, it continued to outpace other major titles; including Bethesda’s Starfield which shook the foundation that previous fall.
From our review of the game we wrote: “Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 is an addictively fun co-op shooter that delivers explosive thrills and laughs, when it works at least,” giving the game a 7.5/10 score. What’s more, there is even more potential for the sequel on addition platforms. According to one rumor, Xbox is heavily considered for a port according to Nick Baker of the Xbox Era Podcast last month.
Now with April behind us, it reveals a greater understanding of Helldivers 2 and its success for PlayStation. From NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella, Helldivers 2’s success is hugely thanks to PC. While ranked #7, it would have been #20 if not for arriving beyond PlayStation, he said.
“And according to Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, Helldivers II has ranked first in US MAU on Steam each month since launch (including April). Launching Helldivers II on both PlayStation and PC has been nothing short of a massive, resounding success,” he adds in the thread. It was previously reported that 60 percent of PC users accounted for Helldivers 2 sales. And this comes amid the recent controversy that took place recently.
In that, PlayStation issued mandatory PlayStation Network sign-ins to play on Steam. However, the backlash induced by its users swiftly undid the decision established just days prior. The most interesting is how Steam reacted to the hyper outburst from players. In fact, users with over 100 hours of gameplay in Helldivers 2 could refund the game still.
