While the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to explore now routes with its ongoing plans with other unrepresented comic book characters, the video game landscape is also welcoming new additions as well. Already, Insomniac Games announced two more projects are underway: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 & Marvel’s Wolverine. However, that is just a sample of what is there.
This past month, Eidos Montreal went on to ship Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite the extremely underwhelming release of Marvel’s Avengers, the new release appears to properly establish what fans and avid players want in the title. As for the latter title from Crystal Dynamics, the team tells it is officially shipping the long-promised Spider-Man expansion for the game later in November.
Recently, Skydance announced that its New Media division – which is helmed by Uncharted/The Last of Us game director Amy Hennig – is working on a new project in collaboration with Marvel.
I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game. The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.
Amy Hennig, Skydance New Media President
“Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance. Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right,” Jay Ong, Executive Vice President & Head of Marvel Games said.
At the moment, there is no certainty as to what story arc that Skydance will be pursuing. But, Executive Vice President & General Manager Julian Beak adds the opportunity is rich with possibility. “We are enormously excited to be working inside the Marvel Universe to craft a rich narrative of our own. Jay and his team at Marvel Games are helping us make the best experiences imaginable.”
Are you excited for what could evolve from this new agreement?
