The return of Konami to AAA releases is still an adjustment to get used to. Just this past October, the publisher in collaboration with Bloober Team shipped a remake for Silent Hill 2. However, that was not the only title on the way. It was also announced that a remake for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was in the pipeline too.
Under the title ‘Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’, it is a return to form that many were excited to see be officially realized for the franchise. Last year, PlayStation did list the title to release in 2024 alongside Silent Hill 2, but, of course, it did not happen. In a separate tangent, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was reported to ship for Nintendo Switch 2 prior to the console’s announcement.
At the PlayStation State of Play showcase, Konami announced Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater to officially release this August. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:
“We’ve heard from many, many fans that they want to see the Metal Gear series back in action, and from the start, we’ve felt exactly the same way. For a long time, however, we struggled with a lack of consensus: What should the development team look like, what was the best approach? And what should the next steps be? During that process of finding our feet, we noticed that more and more players were coming along who had never played a Metal Gear game, or even heard of one.
Producer Noriaki Okamura adds: “That might be the obvious outcome when a series stays quiet for so long, but watching it happen still really struck me, and that was what lead to us putting together the plan for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. […] We knew that not only would this remake need to satisfy Metal Gear fans, it would also have to stand strong enough on its own merits for new players to enjoy.
“We decided to take the approach of modernizing the gameplay only where it was really needed, and otherwise preserve the original experience of the game as faithfully as possible. […] As we revealed last year, one major difference from the original is that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater allows you to choose between two different control styles, an over-the-shoulder third-person viewpoint in New Style, and a top-down viewpoint in Legacy Style to recreate the look and feel of the original game. The Legacy Style camera and controls might be tricky to get used to, which is why we designed New Style so that contemporary gamers can jump right in.”
