From developer 4A Games, the likes of the Metro IP has remained a staple for more than a decade. But it was shaking reveal to discover that the Vienna-based conglomerate Embracer Group would be acquiring the Ukrainian developer in 2020. Following the success of Metro Exodus, it was suspected another installment was to follow. In a statement from the developer, that is not all.
According to 4A Games, the team is collaborating with Saber Interactive on its future projects. That includes a sequel to Metro Exodus alongside a separate multiplayer experience set with in the franchise’s universe. Atop of that a new IP was briefly mentioned as well with little detail to spare originally when disclosed at the time.
From Insider Games, sources tell the outlet that the Metro Exodus follow-up is in a fully playable state. The project is said to include familiar gameplay from the series as the story kicks off in a dream sequence. As for when official word will come for the next game, a potential 2023 reveal is suggested for later this year as the launch is to come in the next calendar year.
In a similar way, Remedy Entertainment has followed the same approach for Alan Wake II. Although the game has been realized from start to finish, it has yet to share much details on the game. Howbeit, the firm did graciously reveal the game in December 2021, but has not spare much in terms of story, gameplay, or when the title is expected to arrive.
Elsewhere, GSC Game World is preparing to ship its long-awaited sequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 later on in 2023. The team that originally founded 4A Games was a chapter of departing developers originally at GSC Game World that went on to create the Metro series.
