When it comes to controllers for Xbox, Microsoft does not hesitate to ship new variants of its latest gamepad. In 2022 alone, fans witnessed the release of the Deep Pink, Mineral Camo, and Lunar Shift. Not to mention the fall release of the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core recently as well. However, the Xbox firm is searching to explore more vistas for its controller as well.
Previously, Microsoft was witnessed polling its fans on the future of the Xbox gamepad. Part of the survey included questioning users if DualSense-like features for the Xbox controller would be preferable for its platform. Additionally, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer did express his acknowledgement on the topic as well in a later interview as a potential addition.
According to Nick Baker of Xbox Era on a recent podcast, he claims that internal chatters shared a DualSense-inspired Xbox controller is currently being prototyped over at Microsoft. You can watch the segment of the interview in the video below:
“Microsoft is currently mucking around or testing and prototyping a new Xbox controller with a touch pad and haptics. […] That is the rumor. Again, whether that controller gets out there or not is another ballgame,” Baker adds. “So whether this controller sees the light of day or not is – I don’t know. All I’ve been told is that there is some prototyping and testing going on with haptics and a touch pad in an Xbox controller.”
In other recent console controller news, it appears that the new ‘elite’ PlayStation controller is coming with a major caveat. In that, the DualSense Edge controller is featuring an even shorter battery life that the original DualSense, The Verge reports. You can read the full report by heading here.
