When it comes to the desired silicon for consoles, primarily its AMD. Although Nintendo collaborates with NVIDIA, AMD is the prime source for both Xbox as well as PlayStation. Previously, the firm shared its teaming with Sony to  deliver better resolution & performance output with AI. Reports also point towards a next-generation deal to further sink its roots into backwards compatibility for the next PlayStation as well.

On the other hand, Microsoft has been working closely with AMD since the launch of Xbox Series X|S as the hardware introduced FidelityFX back in 2021. The firms have gone on to again collaborate on the most recent announcement of the ROG Xbox Ally: a new Xbox peripheral with Windows capabilities that run on AMD silicon.

Now this week, Xbox president Sarah Bond confirms Microsoft is arranging a new “strategic multi-year partnership” on the next-generation Xbox across console, cloud, and peripherals. You can watch the video below:

“At Xbox, our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want. That’s why we’re investing in our next-generation hardware lineup, across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories. I am thrilled to share we’ve established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD co co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices including our next-generation Xbox consoles, in your living room, and in your hands,” Bond says.”

“Together with AMD we’re advancing the state of art in gaming silicon to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation to unlock a deeper a deeper visual quality and immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI, all while maintaining with your existing library of Xbox Games. This is all about building you a gaming platform that’s always with you, so you can play the games you want, across devices anywhere you want, delivering you an Xbox experience not locked to a single store or tied to one device.

“That’s why we’re working closely with the Windows team, to ensure that Windows is the number one platform for gaming. The next generation of Xbox is coming to life, and this is just the beginning.” In early 2024, Bond expressed the new Xbox hardware to being the “largest technological leap” for any console at the time.

And, it is no surprise AMD is still eager to work with the Xbox firm alongside its competitors. Last year, it confirmed over 100 million AMD-powered consoles were sold. You can read the full report by heading here.
