Well after the announcement of PlayStation’s new Pro model for PlayStation 5, it is no surprise that Xbox’s take on a mid-generation refresh is likely not coming. Instead, the Xbox firm over at Microsoft is instead focusing on a next-generation release. From Xbox president Sarah Bond, she phrased the next system to be the “largest technological leap” for a commercially released console ever.
Since then, new information has been released indicating the direction of the platform for its 10th generation release. In that, a Xbox handheld is reportedly on the way. But rather than a handheld console, it is indicated that the device is an accessory more than a hybrid SKU. What’s more, the projected year for 2026 will also signify the 25th anniversary for Xbox since its inception.
When speaking to License Global magazine recently, Xbox head of consumer products John Friend elaborated that plans are already in motion for products & more coming then. Similar to how Microsoft handled the 20th anniversary in 2021, more announcements as well as hardware releasing is likely to come. Not only that, but also commemorating the 25th birthday for Halo as well.
“We have these massive, fantastic franchises ranging from World of Warcraft – celebrating its 20th anniversary this year — to Halo, Call of Duty, to StarCraft and much more. We’re building plans for the 25th anniversary of Halo and Xbox — we have such a rich heritage and history, and these communities have been active for so long, you have to celebrate that.”
Although much information in regard to Microsoft’s plans for the celebration and its next Xbox remains in the dark, there is some information to off from as per a statement from Bond.
