For Resident Evil fans, the series continues to churn out new releases periodically. Just this past year, Resident Evil 4 Remake arrived to modern consoles. What’s more, the game in the most recent sales update revealed it is the best-selling release for the series with over 6 million sales in just over a year. Now, word on a new mainline title is surfacing online.
From notorious leaker Dusk Golem, the next flagship Resident Evil title is prepared to release in early 2025. Via a thread on X, the leakers speaks on the announcement nearing with the timeframe currently aiming for a January release for the next game.
“RE9 started early dev in early 2018 as a possible RE8. Village has started dev as RE8, then became a spin-off title, then ultimately became RE8 again. This game became RE9 ultimately, & yes, RE8 & RE9 were in dev at the same time,” the leaker elaborated in the thread. Additionally, this project is framed the most ambitious and with the largest budget for any Resident Evil title to date seeing the wait time since the development began.
Dusk Golem in the past has proven to be a reliable source on many Japanese projects prior to being announced. In 2020, the user gave a similar disposition on Resident Evil Village sharing what to expect alongside the unique European design choices for the game. What’s more was that the leaker also proved to be correct on Silent Hill as well.
Previously, the leaker spoke on just two years ago shared images of a new game that Konami has planned for the then-dormant IP. Even prior to the Silent Hill showcase that took place later that October, many fans were excited to see what the project will be. The game was inevitably shadow dropped as Silent Hill: The Short Message.
