Upon kicking off the start of the new console generation, presumptions proved to be correct in Sony’s favor for the PlayStation 5 over the Xbox Series X & Xbox Series S. In that, the system has proven to have sold more in contrast to its competitor. However, compared to sales of the last generation Xbox One & PlayStation 4, the metrics are surely lacking. But, that does not mean that the PlayStation 5 is underperforming nonetheless.
In one report from NPD Group, it was recorded that the PlayStation 5 opened at launch to becoming the top fastest-selling console in the United States to date. However, the milestones continued to stack up in a later report. Once again, NPD Group shares that the PlayStation 5 is now the top-selling retail system for industry history in terms of dollar sales since its release later on in March.
But coming from NPD Group Mat Piscatella on Friday, the industry analyst discloses that the PlayStation 5 is now the number on fastest-selling system on all fronts – both in dollar sales and now in units.
Noted, Piscatella in the same thread does press that the PlayStation 5 is surely not the hottest seller for March 2021: that being the Nintendo Switch. But, the PlayStation 5 still rightfully earns its reputation proven from the numbers crunched so far now in April. Nintendo Switch does prove to be a tall opponent as of late as well.
In a separate report from NPD Group, it is discovered that the Nintendo Switch is to second best selling console from Nintendo, in dollar sales. Currently, the Nintendo Switch overtook the Nintendo 3DS in that aspect as the Nintendo DS is now the only obstacle in the way of the Japanese firm for its latest console to be first.
