Understanding what developer Obsidian Entertainment has slated for its upcoming playbook, there is a lot to shuffle through. For one, the developer is already elbows deep in its Pillars of Eternity open-world RPG Avowed. Additionally, the game studio does also have its hands on a sequel to The Outer Worlds which is expected to still be piecing itself together a year after its announcement.

Atop of that, the team is also anticipated to be working on a new experience codenamed ‘Project Pentiment’. From Windows Central, the game is said to be a 16th century narrative-driven detective noir-like project. Elsewhere, fans are hoping that the claims of a follow-up to Fallout: New Vegas is on the horizon too: GameBeat’s Jeff Grubb told the project is being discussed internally earlier in 2022.

Recently, the developer hinted a new reveal will be taking place at the approaching Microsoft presentation. At the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase, Obsidian Entertainment officially unveiled Pentiment. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

“In Pentiment, you play Andreas Maler, a journeyman artist working in the bygone scriptorium of Kiersau Abbey during a time of great social unrest. While finishing his masterpiece, Andreas inadvertently becomes entangled in a series of murders that take place over 25 years. Peasants, thieves, craftsmen, monks, nuns, nobles, and even saints must be investigated and interrogated to expose the truth,” studio head Feargus Urquhart gives for a synopsis.

“It will be up to players to decide Andreas’ choices, from his educational background and lifestyle to how he investigates the murders. One day he may be digging up a dead monk in the abbey cemetery, the next might be spent eavesdropping on peasant gossip at the ladies’ spinning bee. Every decision and accusation he makes carries consequences that will impact the tightly-knit Alpine community for generations to come.”
