Obsidian Entertainment Teases Appearance For Upcoming Xbox Showcase

June is here now so that means the annual events and showcases are to take place periodically throughout this month. Just this week, Sony Interactive Entertainment held its own virtual State of Play presentation which showcased upcoming releases including Street Fighter VI, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and The Callisto Protocol.

Moving forward, Summer Game Fest is slated for next week. Following that is Microsoft’s spotlight with the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase that following Sunday. As for promised reveals for the event, little is certain as to what is appearing. However, studios like The Coalition & Ninja Theory are hoped to be present.

One confirming its attendance is Obsidian Entertainment. In a recent tweet from Design Director Josh Sawyer, he hints that the team will likely making some screen time in the show just over a week away.

Regarding what the team has planned to reveal could be a few things: most certainly is the long-anticipated title Avowed. Tied to the Pillars of Eternity IP, this new action-RPG is said to be a combatant to the likes of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and this developer is the only one that can do that. We already know the game studio made the definitive Fallout game over a decade ago if that says anything.

Additionally, eyes are pointing towards the full release for Grounded. With the recent The Bugs Strike Back’ Update, the team did hint that Version 1.0 is prepared to release this summer. More speculation also points towards an internal projected codenamed ‘Penitent’ which Windows Central reported on. In that, the game is said to be inspired by Disco Elysium with the project set in the 16th century.

The most farlandish prediction has to be the previously reported sequel to Fallout: New Vegas. While the firms were originally uncertain if another collaboration could happen, one claim says it’s already underway. The unannounced project is said to be in early discussions as of this past February. You can read the full report by heading here.

What are you hoping Obsidian Entertainment will reveal at this month’s presentation?

The Xbox + Bethesda Showcase takes place on June 12, 2022 at 1 PM EST / 10 AM PST.
