Although the original announcement for Overwatch 2 took place roughly three years ago, the game is currently playable for anyone across all major platforms. However, the game is currently in beta form with more adjustments to be made as it moves forward. With that, additional content like the promised PvE story missions are expected to ship sometime in 2023.
For now, the game does show to be doing things right for its players transitioning to the new game. In that, cross-progression was granted for users that players the original game. But, the title has faced some obstacles with its release earlier this month. Those that tried to play, you likely experienced the in-and-out experience connecting as the game was inflicted with DDOS attacks its first week. That atop of other surfacing problems discovered as well.
Amid the issues, that did not stop users from chiming in as this new title is free-to-play. This past Friday, Blizzard Entertainment shared its recorded more than 25 million users logging in within the first two weeks of the game’s arrival.
Noted, this early achievement could foreshadow what will come to the game later on. Titles like Halo Infinite & MultiVersus touted similar milestones early on, but currently face proportionally less users online than ever before. But, Blizzard Entertainment could overcome this with a steady flow of content with Overwatch 2 embracing a battle pass system this time around.
Looking ahead for the series, it is reported that an animated show could be on the way. At least, that is perceived through a finding. Reported by Kotaku, the production was uncovered by Activision Blizzard co-president Nick van Dyk on the platform. You can read the full report by heading here.
