When reflecting back to March of this year, the then and upcoming Project xCloud was always presumed to be an initiative unique to mobile devices. However, that was until a report coming from The Verge disclosed that there is an additional program within Microsoft working to bring the cloud-based service to PC as well. The writing offers that the platform at the time was only accessible for employees working at the firm.
The report also including screenshots of xCloud on PC as well, determining when the platform would make its way to keyboard & mouse users is left for time to share. Given the initial emphasis on smart devices being the proper platform xCloud, it was expected that PC would follow the 2020 release for Project xCloud at the time.
Now this week, a new report has surfaced over at The Verge sharing that xCloud is in fact forecasted to hit PC sometime in 2021. According to employees within Microsoft that relayed a statement from Xbox head Phil Spencer, he shares that PC is a “great opportunity” to further explore Xbox Game Pass and game streaming.
The discussion comes from an all-hands on meeting held this week where Spencer discloses that iOS is expected to receive xCloud sometime that same year. Originally sourced from Business Insider, The Verge adds a statement from Spencer on the matters: “we’ll end up on iPhones, and iPads with Game Pass,” he announces to the group. Spencer is also quoted to that he “feels good” on the progress made already on the addition to iOS.
Elaborating more on the matters for Apple users receiving xCloud in 2021, the report also tells that Microsoft will be pursuing an “browser-based solution” that would counter the issues that refrained the firm from launching the platform on The App Store.
