Pikmin 4 Officially Announced, Arrives In 2023

For the Pikmin IP, it has remained dormant in terms of mainline installments. In regards to the Nintendo Switch, it was in October 2020 that the firm officially re-released Pikmin 3 with a ‘Deluxe’ version of the game for the newer hardware. But, there is more for the franchise which gave weight for hope in the future.

Previously, Nintendo announced a new augmented reality experience in collaboration with Niantic will be in the works. The Pikmin project will be in partnership with creator Shigeru Miyamoto and will follow similarly to how gaining experience is worked in Pokémon Go. It was not until this past October that Nintendo & Niantic officially launched Pikmin Bloom for mobile devices.

At the Nintendo Direct this week, Nintendo revealed Pikmin 4 is in development with a release slated for 2023. You can watch the teaser trailer in the video below:

“You’ll be able to play like this: from the Pikmin’s perspective near the ground,” Miyamoto confirmed during the showcase. “Nintendo Switch has made controlling the game simpler meaning you can further concentrate on the core essence of Pikmin gameplay, we call it ‘Dandori’ in Japanese, for strategically planning, deploying, and commanding Pikmin.

In other news from the latest Nintendo Direct, the firm announced that the next Legend of Zelda game is coming this May. From the trailer, we also learn the official title for the sequel is ’The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’. You can read the full report by heading here.
