For the sake of performance in the market regarding PlayStation 5, the latest iteration of Sony’s gaming platform continues to hold its record for being the most successful and profitable system in United States history. Recently, it was reported that the PlayStation 5 sold more than 10 million units since releasing in November last year. The financial report also told that all first-party releases also broke expectations upon shipping respectively.
Previously, corporate Sony during the annual report indicated the continued trend for PlayStation Plus. In that, the service continued to grow as more than 48 million users were subscribed to the service at the time. However, the monthly program faced its first major dip in almost a decade as discovered in the recent Q121 financial report.
From ResetEra, it was a steady increase in users for PlayStation Plus YoY. But, the recent earnings report discloses the first notable dip for the service in eight years. Additionally, Sony went on to comment on the discovery to be unaffected by the shortcoming for PlayStation Plus this past quarter, which Video Game Chronicles transcribed.
Of course, 104m is not a strong number, but are we looking at it as a declining trend? We don’t think so. We are trying to analyse different elements, but there are no conspicuous trends that we can capture. Maybe this month or next month we will have to continue to watch and do an analysis.
At the risk of repetition, may I say that last year the stay-at-home demand was so significant in hindsight, so compared to that period last year as a trend of course [it’s declined]. [But] compared to fiscal 2019 there is an increase. So, we will monitor the situation carefully and we will deepen the engagement and enhance the platform, therefore during the coming fiscal year we will take actions to support this business.
