From Doom developer id Software, the team continues to deliver outstanding adaptations for the ongoing Doom series. After the first impressions that was given from Doom (2016) with a retelling of the classic 1993 entry, it was certain that the title to follow would hold a close grasp on the sequel as Earth gets overrun by the Gates of Hell. That is when Doom Eternal came to be and released in March 2020.
Following into the post-launch phase of what Doom Eternal entailed included a two-part expansions dubbed ‘The Ancient Gods’. From our review, “The lore, locations and fights were blistering and fast paced, and both parts together creates a compelling and tightly paced follow-up to a great game.” Additionally, id Software went on to include a Horde Mode for Doom Eternal after the promised Invasion Mode was canned.
In a new discovery from a job listing for id Software, it appears the team is working on its next major Doom game. One of the qualifications asks the applicant to have extended knowledge of the recent Doom titles. “In depth knowledge of recent id games, including DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal,” the bullet point reads.
Although there is no founded confirmation on a new Doom game is in the works, it is likely that the team is conjuring plans for a new one asking for potential employees to be familiar with prior entries. However, the game does pioneer a certain threshold for first-person shooters which can be used for different IPs. We witnessed this with Rage 2 in the past.
Currently, we are familiar that id Software is working to some extent with the development of Arkane Studios’ Redfall. One animator for the team shared his involvement in the upcoming Xbox Series X|S exclusive, but it is certain the developer is brewing up its own projects in-house as well.
