The anticipated release for upcoming virtual reality prequel sequel Half-Life: Alyx is truly upon us as the launch timeframe for March 2020 is less than a month away. Rounding well into February already, it was unsure when exactly the Valve Corporation would properly disclose the scheduled release date for the approaching entry of their in-house developed series.
Valve has previously shared in a recent AMA hosted on Reddit that the development for Half-Life: Alyx is going very well according to schedule and does not expect to be delayed in the slightest thanks to the progress made by the team. This topic drew concern seeing that other highly anticipated titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy VII Remake had their release dates pushed prior to the hosted chat.
In an announcement earlier this week, Valve finally arrived to tell that Half-Life: Alyx is scheduled to arrive on March 23, 2020. The VR title will also simultaneously mark the first mainline release from the Valve Corporation in nearly a decade – last being in 2013 with Dota 2 for the PC.
Going back to the excitement surrounding the approaching Half-Life: Alyx, it was discovered earlier this year that the project truly blew up for Valve following its initial announcement. According to SuperData Research, it was reported that the announcement swelled sales for the Valve Index virtual reality headset by more than double its initial units sold since the game’s went into public eye.
And while the home-crafted headset continues to sell in response to the announcement, PlayStation VR owners might also be in for a treat later down the line. Although there is no version currently listed for Sony’s VR peripheral, Valve does clarify that there could be a potential port sometime in the coming future if the initial release meets Valve’s expectations.
