For Finnish game studio Remedy Entertainment, the firm is looking to capitalize on its established IPs. That’s emphasized even more as of recent too. In May, the firm shared its focus on new IP Project Kestrel is not proceeding. Instead, its ongoing franchises will carry forward. One of the main focuses is Control. In February, it was announced that the developer acquired the rights for the series from 505 Games.
What’s more, there is plenty planned for Control as Remedy Entertainment plans to explore new horizons for the franchise. Previously, the firm did share that a project is in the works for a multiplayer PvE title – Codename Condor. However, that is only one side of the coin. Remedy Entertainment also stated that a proper sequel for 2019’s Control is also in development as well.
Now with a new update on its progress, the developer unveils FBC: Firebreak – the first proper multiplayer title from Remedy Entertainment. Revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview, it is also confirmed to release for Xbox Game Pass. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:
“We have always done single player games at Remedy, and rest assured, we have more single player games in development, and they will be awesome, but for a long time we have wanted to make a PvE multiplayer game. There are loads of us here who love multiplayer besides single player. We don’t want to be doing the same types of games all the time; it’s good to take on new challenges,” communications director Thomas Puha explains.
He adds: “What I can say is that the Firebreak crew has been cleared to carry ‘paranatural augments,’ which are Altered Items engineered into tool attachments,” explains Puha. “Like the Garden Gnome you saw in the trailer. These are more or less our take on ‘ultimates’ and are not to be taken lightly. I like to think of them as a jaguar in a box [laughs]. You carry the box, you point it at something, you open the box, and you just kind of hope the jaguar doesn’t turn around and eat you or your friends instead.”
Are you excited for FBC: Firebreak from what was shared?
FBC: Firebreak is listed to ship in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
