This coming June, the announcement for Rainbow Six Quarantine will be two years old. And despite initial optimism for the title’s arrival being a standalone installment branching off from one of Ubisoft most prominent release to date, the game is still in development. While only provided with an initial 2020 release window, the game was later ushered to a new, undisclosed launch timeframe that is still left blank.

And while development is still quietly ongoing, the company suggest a potential renaming of the game is underway prior to the game’s release. Only stranding from the possibility to attempt to sever any connection to COVID-19, Ubisoft fails to issue a reason for the considered pursuit. But now, the firm has come to clarify on certain matters relevant to the project.

On Monday, PlayStation Store database bot account @PlaystationSize indicated a new listing hit the storefront – Rainbow Six Parasite. While still in the dark, many presumed this would be the relabeling for Rainbow Six Quarantine. However when speaking with PCGamesN, Ubisoft discloses that is not an accurate presumption.

While we recently shared that we will be changing the name of Rainbow Six Quarantine, “Parasite” is only a placeholder that our internal teams use. Recently, we ran an internal test for the game and some of its details became public. We can confirm this is a glimpse of the upcoming game, and we will share more details, including the official name, soon.

So, for now, Parasite is only considered a temporary replacement for Rainbow Six Quarantine. More precisely, the title is referenced as an internal indication for Ubisoft while it decides on a proper replacement for Rainbow Six Quarantine at a later date. But from the key art for the game that was dug up recently, it is sort of disappointing it might not be official.

Elsewhere recently in regards to Ubisoft, the publisher disclosed in its earnings report to be straying away from its emphasis on AAA, big budget releases and zooming in on free-to-play ventures in its coming fiscal year. You can read the full report by heading here.

Are you hoping Parasite will be the official name for Rainbow Six Quarantine?

Rainbow Six: Quarantine is scheduled to release sometime in 2021.
