The chances for Respawn Entertainment to ship a new game is looking slimmer & slimmer. Although it is working on new projects, the firm has been fixed on Star Wars for years with no sign of stepping out of that realm. Back in 2020, Electronic Arts touted its acquisition for Respawn Entertainment to being a “classic example” for a fulfilling purchase.

But, the firm has continued to be met with an increasing number of canceled titles. One glaring example is the Mandalorian first-person shooter which was shuttered in 2024. Before that, there was word of another incubator project that would bridge Titanfall with Apex Legends which also received the boot. Even this year, former employees disclosed yet another unannounced title was shut down at the same game studio.

It appears that Respawn Entertainment cannot catch a break on expanding its repertoire. Earlier this month, a new string of rumors pieced together a new Titanfall project was underway with extraction features imbedded as the focused mechanic. And despite no proper confirmation, Respawn Entertainment goes on to share it has stopped development on one more undisclosed title.

“As we sharpen our focus for the future, we’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. These decisions aren’t easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected — their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today. We’re offering meaningful support to those impacted, including exploring new opportunities within EA,” it writes in a letterhead on X.

“Looking ahead, our commitment to player-first experiences remains unchanged. Innovation has always been at the core of Respawn’s identity, and it continues to drive how we build the future – from evolving live experiences to crafting new worlds and stories.” According to Bloomberg, one of the titles was codenamed ‘R7’ which corroborates the extraction shooter for Titanfall. Details were not provided on the latter. You can read the full report by heading here.
