As we cross off each day of July on the calendar leading into august with just a little over a week from now, fans following the Call of Duty franchise are more impatient than ever. Traditionally, those that follow the series would already have some knowledge of the annual entry from either Infinity Ward or this year being Treyarch’s turn. However, the has yet to be the case with no official word from the developer nor publisher Activision.
As of majority for the releases from the series, the next installment would receive a dedicated announcement or reveal showcase in late May or later into June. But, seeing there is still no game on the radar for 2020, fans are left in the dark for majority of the summer already. To compare to last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans could have already been anticipating an Alpha playtest to take place later next month.
Instead, the only details that have surfaced is previous listing for the game’s beta which seeped onto the Microsoft Store. In that, users could install the client which cost 80 GB, but launching the download would only prompt the launch image and retract back to the system’s dashboard. The contents of the install is still undetermined as of writing.
But in a new report that surfaced recently, an announcement might be imminent for release. According to @TheGamingRevo3 on Twitter after verifying with Charlie Intel, there are sponsored bags of Doritos that sport the new game – effectively solidifying the game’s titling to be ‘Call of Duty: Cold War’.
Back in May, another Twitter user going by the handle @Okami13_ shared that the titling for the next entry would be branded with the “Cold War” subtitle. But following the leaked beta more recently, it was unsure to determine the claim’s legitimacy with the images provided not including the ‘Cold War’ label anywhere. But now in the new finding, it is easy to say that the leaker was correct.
To solidify the game’s announcement is on the horizon, @Okami13_ just this week also disclosed that the game’s announcement is “coming very soon.” The user adds that despite the still in effect precautionary measures for the development team, the game’s arrival will still be in the boundaries of 2020.
This year initially was slated to be the next entry from Sledgehammer Games that shipped Call of Duty: WWII back in 2017, but the studio was met with internal conflictions with Raven Software during the concept stage of development and the project fell through.
