Sega Announces Sonic Rumble, Closed Beta Scheduled For May 2024

For 2024, Sonic the Hedgehog is shaping up to be a massive year for the Sega mascot. The biggest happens to be the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film set for this December. Amid the wait, reports disclosed casting for the added character Shadow the Hedgehog will be Keanu Reeves. In addition to the live-action film, a connect Knuckled TV show has already aired on Paramount+ earlier in April.

Looking ahead, there are new games on the horizon. The most obvious is Sonic x Shadow Generations aiming for a fall 2024 release. Another is a new Sonic-themed Fall Guys experience. Initially, the game leaked online as ‘Sonic Toy Party’ with early build footage for the title. But, sources familiar with the development updated the game to be renamed Sonic Rumble instead.

On Wednesday, Sega announces Sonic Rumble with a new gameplay trailer. You can also sign-up for an upcoming closed playtest for from May 24th – May 26th . You can watch the trailer in the video below:

“On your mark, get set…PLAY! Get ready to race in the all-new Sonic Rumble! Jump into a speedy, 32-person mobile royale set in a cheery toy world created by Dr. Eggman. Play as some of your favorite characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe complete with customization to create your perfect avatar as you dive into action-packed gameplay,” the description from the YouTube trailer reads.

The official website includes additional illustrations for the game as well as screenshots for Sonic Rumble. Sega touts the new Sonic Rumble to be a “first in the Sonic series” offering a unique multiplayer action experience. In total, up to 32 players can play at a time with an array of themed stages and recognizable characters from the franchise’s diverse roster. You can sign up for the closed beta by heading here.
