Shenmue most recently with the remaster of the original two titles for modern platforms have hit fans with a wave of nostalgia returning to the Dreamcast titles. Available on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, yet not for the Nintendo Switch. But it was recently discovered that could change in the future.
Japanese videogame outlet 4Gamer spoke with some members of Sega’s localization team about the games coming to the Switch, Hiroji Noguchi and Eigo Kasahara expanded on the possibility during the interview. Noguchi stating that “The fans have really shown their love for Shenmue – and for that, I really am grateful. Personally, I think it’d be great if you could play Shenmue on the Switch anywhere.” Adding onto the discussion, Kasahara said:
Whether or not we can do something like that in reality, we’re taking the fan’s opinions into consideration. Following up on that might take some time, but it’s definitely something I want to consider.
Though this is exciting to hear from employees at Sega, nothing has been confirmed for the games coming to Nintendo’s platform. As Shenmue 3 has been confirmed for next year, hopefully we see the two titles make it to the hybrid console before then. It is interesting though that the publisher is contemplating on bringing the games to the Switch, as Sega confirmed that there’s no chances of seeing Yakuza on the platform.
Shenmue 3 is set to launch on August 27, 2019 for PlayStation 4.
