Came the initial announcement for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, many conceived the game to be structured parallel to Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers. With a squad of superheroes, you and friends can play together to earn new items and cosmetics unlocks. But, with Rocksteady Studios’ track record with the Batman Arkham trilogy, many hoped the game would not follow the footsteps of the Marvel title.

Especially when the game originally offered individual battle passes for each Avenger, it was evident what the developer shouldn’t do for Suicide Squad. The game previously faced a delay to 2023 which upset many patient fans who’ve waited as far back as 2015 since Arkham Knight shipped. At The Game Awards, it was revealed the game’s launch is now slated for May 2023 later this spring.

New leaks online reveal a GaaS service for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League leaving many fans to understand that the game is trailing closer to Marvel’s Avengers than many would have hoped. Well according to Video Game Chronicles, many of this service structure is said to emphasize on cosmetic items – not items for pay-to-win or lootboxes.

“You don’t start off debuffed and weak. You just start off great and can get ridiculous, like Arkham Knight’s Batman,” the outlet was told by a source familiar with the development on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Furthermore, the currencies at the top screen is indicated to be individual upgrade tokens to further skills for each anti-hero and not reflecting real-time money.

The source of the direction for the battle pass is questionable to say the least, but it is not surprising. With how the previous releases were structured, it is possible much of the wait time for the game is to blame for this implementation. It could even be to blame for the leave of leads Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker recently, but that is simply conjecture. You can read the full report by heading here.
