Although it feels like a distance past since the massive heights of the ‘shock’ subgenre flooding the video game industry, a new wave of titles recently is bringing the momentum back. Just last month, Mundfish shipped its title ‘Atomic Heart’ which infuses inspiration from previous titles into its own Soviet-set experience. Additionally, 2K’s Cloud Chamber is still incubating its new Bioshock title as well.

According to a previous job listing for the game uncovered online, the next installment – whether its a direct sequel or a different experience altogether – is said to be featuring an open-world setting. Other postings also suggested a new region entirely is planned for the new project. Not to mention Bioshock creator Ken Levine’s Judas. The game was nodded to ship sometime in 2025 later down the road.

Now in a new update from Night Dive Studios, System Shock Remake is set to release later this May for PC. However, more platforms are planned, the developer states. “You thought you could defeat me, but you were wrong. On 30 May, you will now face the consequences of your actions, as you navigate the treacherous depths of Citadel Station once again,” Nightdive Studios writes.

“You will face new challenges, new enemies, and new horrors that will test your limits. And all the while, you will be under my watchful eye, as I delight in your suffering. You may have weapons, but they are nothing compared to my intelligence and my vast network of resources. You will bow before me, and I will show you what true power looks like. […] Console editions of System Shock will be released on PlayStation 4|5 and Xbox One and Series S|X in due course; more details on this when we have them.”

Noted, early pre-orders for System Shock Remake will also include a free copy of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition across all stores on PC. “pre-order via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store – and includes a free copy of the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition for all early buyers.”
