To patient fans for The Last of Us, the long-promised live-action adaptation is close to releasing. And while it is not a full-length film, it does not discount the quality of the upcoming HBO Max series. In that, Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) and Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) are to star as the iconic duo Ellie and Joel respectively.
Previously, HBO Max & PlayStation Productions released the first full trailer for the game’s show sharing that the TV show is set to release in January welcoming 2023. In further context of what this new series will feature, Neil Druckmann who stands as an executive producer previously told that the show will also incorporate additional stories when speaking to IGN then.
Now in a new interview speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Druckmann does elaborate that the show will not break off from the centered plot for the franchise. He goes further to elaborate that the TV series is not to fall victim to a cliffhanger either. “We have no plans to tell any stories beyond adapting the games. We won’t run into the same issue as Game of Thrones since Part II doesn’t end on a cliffhanger.”
Additionally, Druckmann does elaborate further on the future of The Last of Us slightly. Although not confirming if there is a new installment already in development, he does explain that “I think there’s more story to tell.” So far confirmed for the series is an upcoming multiplayer experience set within the universe the developer teased in 2022.
On top of that, there are rumors three is already in the works. But, Druckmann actually told IGN in a separate interview that the third game already has its story on paper. Howbeit, the game obviously was not made still. What are your thoughts on The Last of Us for the upcoming TV show?
