While promise for The Last of Us was made to enter entertainment nearly a decade ago, the series is finally making that trek in 2023. Back in spring 2021, it was reported that filming for the upcoming television show would commence that coming summer. The casts stars Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey as Ellie and The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal as Joel. Others like Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Merle Dandridge (The Flight Attendant) to also co-star.
Projections for the coming TV series was said to be comprised of 10 episodes for its first season. However, airings for The Last of Us via HBO Max would not take place well until 2023. Thankfully, footage for the television show was properly revealed just this past August. And now, we have a firm understanding of when it will officially arrive.
On Twitter, the official The Last of Us account revealed that the TV adaptation is to be airing on the streaming service this January. You can view the poster for the TV show in the tweet below:

Understanding the approach HBO is taking, executive producer and The Last of Us Part II game director Neil Druckmann shared that the show will bring new content that was not pressed on in the original 2013 release. “Things sometimes stay pretty close. It’s funny to see my dialogue there from the games in HBO scripts. And sometimes they deviate greatly to much better effect because we are dealing with a different medium,” he said to IGN then.
As for other news regarding the source material, Sony Interactive Entertainment & Naughty Dog shipped The Last of Us Part I this past September. The game is structured the same as the PlayStation 3 title, but is reimagined with the updated engine used for its 2020 sequel. You can read the full report by heading here.
