The Quarry’s Supermassive Games Gets Acquired By Nordisk Games

Developer Supermassive Games rewinding back to the start of the PlayStation 4 generation was expected to be a shoe-in for becoming a first-party developer at PlayStation. With titles like Until Dawn and The Patient, there was heavy speculation of an arrangement underway at the time. However, the announcement never came as the team later began its Dark Pictures Anthology with Bandai Namco.

Since then, the team has worked with the likes of Stadia Games & Entertainment for an upcoming project. However, the closing of the internal group at Google left the game to go free range moving forward. It wasn’t until this past March The Quarry was announced. But more recently, Axios Gaming reported that the title was in fact a planned exclusive for Stadia originally.

In a new announcement on Tuesday, Supermassive Games reveals its acquisition by Nordisk Games. The publisher previously invested a 30 percent stake in Supermassive Games and has now officially purchased the English developer.

It’s been a little over a year since Nordisk Games made an initial investment in Supermassive Games and our vision for the future. During that time, we have found that we share a lot of important values with Mikkel and his team, and we believe these values to be equally important to our existing commercial partners who we will continue to support.

Having had such a positive experience over the past year it wasn’t a difficult decision when Nordisk Games wanted to explore increasing their investment. We have an exciting and ambitious growth strategy for Supermassive Games and Nordisk Games ownership only enhances that. I’m hugely excited about where the security offered by this partnership, and continued access to the expertise within Nordisk Games, will take us next.

Nordisk Games CEO Mikkel Weider went on to state, “In the year we’ve worked alongside Pete and Joe and the whole Supermassive team, it’s been clear to us the amount of talent, as well as how much potential there is to further develop the kinds of story and narrative-driven games they excel at.

“In acquiring 100% of the studio we’ll be able to increase our support to the team, and most importantly, continue the great working relationship we have with them.” In upcoming projects from Supermassive Games, the developer is preparing its release for the finale for Dark Pictures Anthology for Season One. In that, The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me was revealed. You can read the full report by heading here.
