Rewinding the clock back to the era of Xbox 360, many console owners might recall one Xbox Arcade title, Toy Soldiers. At the time, Xbox Arcade can be treated similar to the ID@Xbox program where independent game studios get their games featured on Xbox 360. Toy Soldiers then swelled to being one of the most recognized releases at the time next to its follow-up, Toy Soldiers: Cold War.
More than a decade later, developer Signal Studios announces the official sequel for the franchise, Toy Soldiers 2: Final Hour. While much is not shared on the release for the second mainline installment, it is propped up for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. But, the original 2010 game is also on the way through different hands.
In that, developer Accelerate Games is working on Toy Soldiers HD, a remastering of the classic title from Xbox 360 for the arrangement of modern console hardware – excluding the new Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5. You can watch the full trailer in the video below:
“Command from above or take direct control below,” the description for the trailer explains. “Lead your foot soldiers, cavalry, tanks and planes to victory. Deploy an exciting arsenal of guns, gas, howitzers, mortars, troops, flamethrowers and vehicles to protect your Toybox in vintage WWI toy dioramas.
“Toy Soldiers is a multi-genre action-strategy game in which players command antique WWI toy soldiers vying for control of the trench-filled diorama battlefields of Europe. The original classic has been overhauled and upgraded with new content, skins, gameplay, expanded game modes, improved controls and graphical upgrades. We’ve also included all the original DLC and a few new levels as well!’”
Outside of Toy Soldiers, it appears other Xbox 360-era titles are also picking up momentum for a comeback. In that, Castle Miner Z is one possibility to resurface later on. Digital DNA Games’ Thomas Stone asked “how interested are we in a CMZ reboot,” to his followers with responses glowing with excitement for the proposal.
Elsewhere, Xbox head Phil Spencer did comment on behalf of 1 vs. 100 returning as well. While still in motion to become a release, Spencer could not elaborate on how exactly the series is returning.
