One of the biggest victories for Assassin’s Creed fans was the discovery that a new title set in Feudal Japan is on the way. But despite the new game being the dream setting for many fans, it was soon plagued with many controversies despite the glowing improvements becoming the first entry not on last-generation hardware. Despite that, Ubisoft did go ahead shelving any media plans for the majority of 2024 at the time.
By September 2024, it took a turn for the worst: Ubisoft announced the game will be delayed from its November launch to a new date set for February 2025. To make things worse, it then pushed the game to competing with the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yotei, revealed shortly after. So now the stakes are high as the game sits longer in the oven.
This week, Ubisoft made another update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This time, the publisher has revealed that the current February release is now void with March now the estimated release for the game. You can read the full letterhead below:
“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible fans and dedicated teams for your unwavering support since our announcement in September to further refine and polish Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” Ubisoft wrote in the statement. “Since November, we’ve been thrilled to share our progress through Gameplay Overviews, and the overwhelming excitement has truly inspired us. Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community.
“While we’ve already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience. Accordingly, the new release date is March 20, 2025. We remain committed to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience-fostered by ongoing dialogue between our players and development teams.”
For Assassin’s Creed Shadows, there is more to the game than just what’s promised in the full release now coming this spring. In fact, it was reported that a co-op mode is in development for the title. Beyond Shadows, it was also claimed that Ubisoft still has close to a dozen different entries planned for the franchise.
