The ongoing development that is Assassin’s Creed Shadows is certainly interesting when understanding how much it can affect Ubisoft if it performs poorly. Recently, the publisher issued its second delay to the game which now schedules it to release this March. Not only that, Ubisoft also hinted at the first post-launch expansion for the game, ‘Claws of Awaji’. It is expected more than one major add-on is planned for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Reflecting the current state of Ubisoft, general revenue for the publisher did tank by 30 percent as per its latest earnings call. But, CEO Yves Guillemot did press that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has faced record pre-order numbers similar to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Many projects rely on Assassin’s Creed Shadows being a sure fire hit; especially when there are at least a dozen other Assassin’s Creed titles internally in development.

In preparation for the game’s soon release next month, Ubisoft has shared a piece of new information on those excited to jump into Assassin’s Creed Shadows later this March. Already confirming that the story does not dictate which characters you can play – Naoe or Yasuke – Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also feature a new ‘Canon Mode’ which severs the RPG dialogue mechanic that the past two mainline releases have included.

“Lore lovers! Feel fully immersed in the canon story with narrative-locked dialogue during cutscenes,” Ubisoft writes in the post on X for the Assassin’s Creed account. “RPG fans, have no fear! Toggle this mode off to continue enjoying your roleplaying experience.” So although it is not a permanent feature, there is the option to toggle when you feel the need to follow the core plot without interfering with the progression of the game.

Similarly, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla did include a core mode that explore Eivor’s identity throughout the game’s plot. In that, you would jump between both male & female versions of Eivor during different story segments of the full game. You can read the full report by heading here.
