Although many players of Ubisoft are hoping for a new Splinter Cell game to be revealed, that time is still far from being a reality. While Ubisoft did confirm the IP is currently being translated for Oculus through a new arrangement with Facebook, Ubisoft is pushing forward for the overall Tom Clancy universe as we know it.

Previously, Video Game Chronicles reported that Ubisoft is working on a conglomerate experience which combines the worlds of Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and The Division into one experience: ‘Battlecat’ the game was codenamed. Even more, Ubisoft in a teaser on Sunday hinted at a major announcement taking place on Monday. Even more, IGN issued a taste of gameplay footage the same day.

Now on Monday, Ubisoft officially announced a new first-person shooter, XDefiant. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

While the experience does look familiar, what makes the game standout is the extended support it will receive in terms of content from Ubisoft, Executive Producer Mark Rubin explains. “There’s no, ‘well, maybe the next game will have those improvements’ as we want this game to last for years. We’re not going to abandon it and go make another game after this one launches.”

Similarly, Producer Kim Weigend injects that the added content for the game is already on the roadmap for Ubisoft when XDefiant officially ships. “We’re gonna continue to add to this roster of factions, Defiant’s abilities, loadouts, and we really want to hear from you all – the people who are gonna play our game – what you wanna see.”

Right now, there is no set release for the game or a clear understanding for the platforms it will ship on. But, Ubisoft is preparing a early playtest for the game for users interested in the Untied States and Canada starting August 5th. You can sign-up for that by visiting the game’s website here.
