Although many beloved IPs from the PlayStation property vault are currently decommissioned, Sony Interactive Entertainment already has other plans for the projects instead. In that, PlayStation Pictures is adapting these titles into film/television. Already we witness this with Twisted Metal which most recently was reported to cast Anthony Mackie as the lead. Additionally, SIE President & CEO Jim Ryan expressed these productions to only be the tip of the iceberg for what else is planned later on.
So far, there is also plans of an Uncharted movie which just hit theaters this weekend alongside the upcoming HBO TV series for The Last of Us as well. But, there is still room for more properties to hit the new medium as well. There were continuous talks of a Sly Cooper television show, but, these claims simmered down with no follow-ups since.
But, Digital Trends when speaking to Uncharted director Ruben Fleischer can confirm that Jak & Daxter is next on line for an adaptation. In an interview with the outlet, Fleischer explains that he’s involved with the series in a new project. “I’m actually working on Jak and Daxter, a version of that, for PlayStation, which I think would be really cool to bring to life.”
The idea of the 3D platformer receiving a film adaptation is not the first attempt from the PlayStation firm. In 2016, Ratchet & Clank hit the silver screen then alongside a video game titled with the same name. However, developer Naughty Dog has not revisited the series unlike Insomniac Games did for its franchise in recent years.
While hope brewed for a new Jak & Daxter game in the past year with new rumors emerging, the team verified the claims to be false despite wanting to make a new installment. But, the team this January did explain it has multiple projects in the pipeline that will share later on. You can read the full report by heading here.
