Virtuos Shares Ambitions To Bring Next-Gen Xbox & PlayStation Games To Nintendo Switch

This year will introduce the next generation of console hardware from both Microsoft with the Xbox Series X and Sony’s PlayStation 5. But while these new units are scheduled to ship at the latter of 2020 in the holiday season, it is noted that the new generation has already settled into the market. The Nintendo Switch despite launching just three years ago is considered to be new hardware for the newest generation of console architecture.

But unlike the new set of standards that the approaching Xbox & PlayStation paves for gaming, Nintendo Switch cannot perform the same metrics. However, Nintendo has proven that the Switch surely is a new stepping stone that ushers competitive sales in units as the handheld console hybrid has overtaken the Xbox One in lifetime sales within half the time of being a retail console.

And while the Switch is not advertised to be a powerhouse system like its competitors, big budget titles still find its way to the Nintendo eShop. Developer Virtuos Games, the team responsible for the approaching port of The Outer Worlds, shares that the studio will double down to introduce next-gen titles produced for the Xbox Series X/PlayStation 5 to Switch.

We believe that 2020 will be the year of game-centric development, where players will expect as standard a consistency of experience with their favorite games. With the launch of the new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 this year, developers need to strategize and plan for the game experience to be consistent across all platforms. The Shanghai-based developer aside from the upcoming Switch version for the Obsidian Entertainment game is also notorious for its work on migrating titles like Dark Souls: Remastered, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and Starlink: Battle for Atlas. In the efforts of porting more ambitious properties to Nintendo Switch in the coming future, Virtuos planes to double down on committing to the promise.

Speaking with Maxi-Geek, Freeman goes on to disclose the process on how the developer views translating big projects to Nintendo Switch. “Each game and project is unique, and a one-size-fits-all approach is not an option. That being said, schedules tend to be more bespoke when it comes to bringing new or very recent games to the Switch,” Freeman breaking down the aspect of deciding to port a game.

“However, with remasters where we are taking beloved games from the past and bringing them up to date, there can be a more pre-planned approach.” We have witnessed the dismissal of anticipating projects like Cyberpunk 2077 being shelved on the idea of a Switch port while its predecessor managed to release for the eShop. Perhaps that might change leading on with what plans Virtuos has in-store.
