When it comes to the year-old released World War Z, many zombie-killing fans pursued the game in hopes for a potential replacement for the gap that Valve left after the release of Left 4 Dead 2 in 2011. And while the game is not entirely what fans could have hoped for, the film-inspired title does offer some filler that players cannot complain about.
Even more, the game actually performed fairly well within its first month of release as the game was reported to have capitalized on roughly two million units sold at the time. Now as the game finally turns one year old, developer Saber Interactive reveals that World War Z will be receiving a definitive Game of the Year Edition next month.
Alike with other projects the received the same titular response, the Game of the Year Edition will include all content that was added following the release of the base game. However, there’s even more as Saber Interactive went to share that the approaching bundle will also arrive with additional content including a new episode of missions introducing France to the game.
Furthermore, Saber Interactive went on to also share that World War Z will in fact be expecting a Nintendo Switch version, however, as for when has yet to be disclosed. For the amount of technological necessities for World War Z to operate on consoles, Nintendo Switch will surely be a challenge. But, Saber Interactive has achieved a very impressive port of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 just last year, so it’s confident that the game is in good hands.
“Keep in mind that we are rendering scenes with hundreds of enemies and four players online. Getting this to run on the Switch is the hardest thing that we have had to do – this is true even though we are porting our own [Swarm] engine over to the platform,” Saber Interactive Matt Karch tells IGN on the difficulties to port World War Z.
Reflecting on the success of World War Z since the game’s initial release just a year ago, Kurch goes on to share that the game continues to exceed expectation on PC, specifically Epic Games Store. When speaking with the storefront, Karch tells that World War Z happens to be the most successful, free game provided on the platform as of writing. However, this also some worry as this might overshadow other popular titles from the studio.
Shifting the discussion to the recent acquisition by THQ Nordic owner Embracer Group, Kurch tells that the team will be unfazed by the purchase and will not shelve other properties in favor of prolonging World War Z success when speaking on the matters of NBA Playgrounds. “We have a fantastic relationship with 2K and we plan on continuing the partnership. Our acquisition by Embracer won’t change Saber’s DNA, in fact I would say that one of the reasons we were so keen to join them is because I believe their culture will amplify what has made us successful.”
In a recent announcement elsewhere, Crytek revealed that Saber Interactive will also be helming the Nintendo Switch release of Crysis Remastered. You can get yourself up to date on the report by heading here.
