It was in late April that Microsoft revealed a surprising milestone for Xbox Game Pass. That since its inception in 2017, the Netflix-esque video game service has ticked over 10 million users. Gathered that some users flocked to the service in favor to ante up on the coming first-party entries that are available and underway, it did take some processing to realize the magnitude of the service this spring.
It came to be an even larger endeavor on Microsoft’s behalf when Sony Interactive Entertainment spared that only 2.2 million users were counted for its own service, PlayStation Now. Despite the number of units virtually being 3:1, Microsoft has a farther better success in pulling more users. And now as we reach the end of summer with fall beginning this week, Microsoft has more to spare on the matters on Xbox Game Pass.
In conjunction with the recent acquisition of Zenimax Media & Bethesda, the statement relayed by Xbox Head Phil Spencer revealed that the service is now well over 15 million users as of late.
With unique investments in content, community, and the cloud, Microsoft’s gaming strategy differs from others by empowering people to play the games they want, with the people they want, anywhere they want. Games are the primary growth engine in gaming, and games are fueling new cloud-gaming services like Xbox Game Pass, which has reached a new milestone of over 15 million subscribers.
The last recording of users spared by Microsoft happened this spring: now less than five months later, the amount of subscribers for Xbox Game Pass has surpassed 50 percent in less than half of the lifespan for the service. Noted, more users began adopting services and other digital mediums thanks to the ongoing pandemic, so the number could be influenced by that. But ultimately, the trend for intangible media has continued to grow for majority of this generation.
Relevant to the recent purchase made by Microsoft and Xbox Game Pass, the firm verifies that coming new entries from Bethesda will be arriving to the service on day one. As for current entries, an influx of already available entries are suspected to make waves onto the service later in time.
